Magic night in Starlight Room near the Dolomites

Valentine’s day is coming, and if you want to do something really special and unforgettable for your significant other, we are here to help. We did this, we loved it, and we definitely recommend it. Rent the Starlight Room and spend a breathtaking night under the stars in the Italian Dolomites.

Where is this place?

To begin with, my husband found this place called Starlight Room 360 on the webpage thisiswhyimbroke.com, and of course didn’t tell me anything. He wanted to make a birthday surprise for me, and he did an amazing job!

The fastest way to get there is to take a flight to Trevizo airport (right near Venice) and rent a car. It takes approximately 180 minutes to reach the final destination. Along the way, we passed the beautiful mountain town of Cortina D’Ampezzo. Since the check-in time at Starlight Room was at 4 pm, we stopped for a short walk in this town.

Even though this place was a bit remote, Google maps took us straight there without any problems. Apparently, they have a small ski resort there as well. We came across multiple families with kids ready for winter entertainments.

What’s included?

The standard package includes dinner with a bottle of wine, transportation to the room itself and back, and a basic Italian breakfast. In the beginning, we weren’t sure how everything is going to work but here is how everything was managed.

The beginning of our romantic evening

We entered into a rustic style log house for a check-in. After all formalities (security deposit included) we were sat at a separate table and waited for our dinner. We were assured that once we’ll be taken to the Starlight Room, we will be left there alone until early morning. That means that we should stuff our bellies as much as possible. By the way, the dinner and wine were great as expected.

After dinner, a man came and asked if we’re ready to go. It was already dark outside. The distance between the log house and the Starlight Room wasn’t very long but it curved slightly up the hill. We were taken there by snowmobile. In the summer period, they travel there by quad bike. The drive there took less than 10 minutes and that wasn’t even enough time to get cold.

The man showed us our romantic gateway (an outside toilet included), turned the heating and the lights on, and left us. Before leaving we agreed that he’ll come to pick us up at 8 am the next day.

Why it is so special?

First of all, this is a tiny room that accommodates not more than two people. Even though the base construction is made of wood but all the walls and ceiling are made of glass. I assume the owners purposely do not call it a mountain cabin because in a mountain cabin you would expect to find a mini kitchen and all other commodities inside it. There was just a bed that took the whole width of the room, and some room left to leave your coats, shoes, and bags (by “bags” I mean purses and backpacks – you don’t want to take the whole luggage there). The toilet, as mentioned above, was outside and I was lucky enough not to visit it. To my knowledge, they added a toilet inside the room later on. Most importantly, the room got warm very quickly and the temperature was perfect.

We purposely decided not to take computers or books there – we didn’t want any distractions. We just lounged on the bed and looked through the glass ceiling. Unfortunately, that particular evening was so cloudy that we couldn’t see the stars. I won’t lie: it was really disappointing but what you can do about it? We couldn’t change the weather but we could control our attitude. We waited for a weather change until eventually, we fell asleep.

And then Tyler woke up in the middle of the night. He woke me up as well. In the beginning, I didn’t understand what’s going on but then I heard Tyler saying “Look at the sky”. It was so clear and the stars looked so close that it seemed I could stretch my hand and touch them. I haven’t experienced such a magical night ever before. And I was so grateful – to be honest, I don’t know to whom – that Tyler woke up just at the right moment.

The next morning

I can’t decide what I was admiring more: the starry night or the sunrise. Since we arrived on the previous night when it was already dark, we didn’t see the whole beauty of the mountains. The mild sunrise light uncovered the majesty of the Dolomites. Honestly, I feel that I’m short in words to describe everything properly. I think it simply just goes beyond words.

Our snowmobile driver was unfortunately accurate as a Swiss watch. Around 8 am, we heard the motor sound approaching us. Meanwhile, we were already strolling outside the Starlight Room and taking amazing morning pictures. We asked our driver to snap one picture of us near the room and after that, without any long goodbyes, we were whisked down the hill to eat our traditional Italian breakfast – cornetto with jam and a shot of espresso.

The Starlight Room in a nutshell

This glass room is located in North Italy, near the Dolomite mountains. Even though the price is really high, this experience is worth the money you pay. Keep in mind that there might be a long waiting list to spend a night in the Starlight Room. So if you really want to do this, book it in advance.
